TBOLTMON Error Message

I downloaded a copy of TBOLTMON and installed it. When
I try to open it I get a Com Port Error Message no matter
which port I try (#1 through #16).
The computer has a Windows XP O/S.

I also tried it on another computer with a Windows 10
O/S and get the same results.

Perhaps I got a corrupted copy ??

Any suggestions ?

Thanks, Dick, W1KSZ

ps: any other T-Bolt monitoring programs I can try ?

I checked the TBoltmon files at http://leapsecond.com/pages/tbolt/ and they're fine.
Grab a new copy if you suspect something wrong on your end.

The usual reason that you get a com port error is that the port doesn't exist, or that it's beyond com16.
Does this old computer have native com ports or are you using a serial/USB adapter?
Look in the device manager (devmgmt.msc) to find the actual port number.

If you have a valid port number but you don't trust the serial adapter, jumper pins 2 and 3 and then use hyper terminal (hypertrm.exe) to see if the loopback works.

I recently downloaded the program from the leap-year site, and it
worked perfectly right off the bat on an old XP machine that has
a genuine built-in RS232 port.  Is leap-year where you got the
program?

Are you using one of those USB-serial adapters?  Perhaps it is the
cause of the errors.

I downloaded and installed a new copy from the Leapsecond site.
Found the COM port for the Serial to USB Adapter (COM 5) and
voila ... it works.

I bought two Trimble T-Bolts from an auction site for short money
($80 ea) and wanted to check them out.

The last time I got some T-Bolts was a while ago when they were
being parted out of Telcom gear. That source dried up long ago
and the prices today are right up there. These were the cheapest
I have seen in a long time and they are the Trimble commercial
version, not surplus Tel-Com.

Thanks for the help,

73, Dick, W1KSZ
