Michael,
thanks for the file! it appears to be a dedicated early USB device driver, as
opposed to the delorme converter program.
I fought with all the on-line repositories and on the 3rd try, I got the blasted
delorme serial converter to install, suddenly I see satellites! yay, life is
good. all day I have been fighting "unable to extract somefile.msi" messages
from the delorme serial converter app installers I could locate (broken, bad,
incompatible with xp or VMWare? who knows..) , suddenly it worked when I opened
file explorer (what the heck?)... plus I fell back to an earlier rev. of the
converter.
so, although it is unquestionably hokey and rube golderberg-ish, I have the
Lt-20 running inside XP using usb-serial conversion, inside VMWare, on an Ubuntu
machine. I feel like there is certainly a better way, but now at least I know
the pucks work, it IS possible to see the data (although no details on rates,
etc yet), and I have some other programs that can catch this stream to allow
navigation.
If I can figure out how to compile the gpsd source to run natively, no doubt
this will be much simpler,
but I am happy to see it run at all!
many thanks to everybody for their good info.

Walter,
No manual on the disk. But, here is what is available. Mine is circa 2001 not
2005. However, it will almost certainly run under XP. I am pretty sure that I
did that.
While I do have a manual, it may well be months (many) before I would be able
to find it. Running the software isn't rocket science or even brain surgery.
There is a readme.txt file.
Also, remember, this is from Win 2k days. I don't know if an installer is even
included.
Michael
michael,
the zipped file would be great! I'm not sure if I can get the win2K/98 version
to run, but maybe I will get lucky under XP! I realize this is an older gizmo,
looks to be 2005 vintage, which makes it a bit of a techno-albatross these
days. still I am curious to see if I can get it to work. is there any kind of
manual on that CD? boy, some known details would be so incredibly handy....
all the best,
walter

Walter,
I have the original three CDs for an Earthmate. One CD is v1.USB 1300 and
two are Street Atlas USA. The DeLorme disk says it is for Windows 98/2000/ME
or Mac OS 9. I probably still have the yellow GPS receiver in a box, perhaps
downstairs or possibly in a storage locker 200m from here (no finding it, if
that is the case).
The DeLorme disk appears to be good. I copied the data off and zipped it. It
is only 154,634 bytes, so if you like I will just send it to you via an
attachment.
Michael
sadly, all the repositories of software for these nice little yellow USB GPS pucks
has vanished, and nothing remains at the DeLorme site at all. from what I see,
they discontinued all support after XP.
if anybody has anything left for them, even a manual PDF file, it would be
greatly appreciated,
I just got them in a bag, with nothing. generic operation under Linux (Ubuntu)
would be an especially great find, although I know the company did not produce
anything. I have seen references to some
later software (also vanished) that was 3rd party. do any internals for these
exist? I can tell from
the LED codes the ones I have work and can acquire, but I can't get at the
data. I am also curious
if they can be hacked for time or frequency references as well.
any information appreciated. I am happy to send a puck to anybody that can come
up with working
linux software!
all the best,
walter
