I'm in So FL. and may have to take you up on the reprogramming. The
programmer I ordered will fall short. Even the 6 ROM chips I ordered had
the correct description (TMS2564JL) but the picture (KMS2816AP) was wrong.
I'm waiting on a reply from the seller to confirm if he was selling my
target chip or the KMS #.
I would want to do what you described. Archive the original programming,
erase them, then program in the 6 images. Where are you located?
Does anyone know how to switch volt-nuts from digest version to individual
emailed version?

Hello Rick,
I hesitated to give an advice for a good programmer for some reasons,
sorry for being late, now.
I also bought the latest TL866II plus, from the original manufacturer,
which I can highly recommend for more recent non volatile components.
There's a long history behind this programmer, as older versions like
the CS had been copied by other Chinese ..uum.. garage companies, I
assume.. therefore the original manufacturer XGECU terminated all these
older versions some time ago, so I hope your CS version is?
'compatible', or 'old stock', or you should make sure it is anything of
both, before attempting to make a firmware update.. as far as I
remember.. there's been a long discussion on eevblog about this
programmer, and stuck FW updates, especially on clones. Best is to avoid
these updates, anyhow.
The 2nd problem with the recent version which I have is, that it is not
able to program very old EPROMs which require high programming voltages
like 25V or even 21V, (I didn't test that yet on my old stock), so your
EPROMs might fall into this category.. and if the CS version (either
compatible or original) is still able to program one of these, I don't
know. The operating software will tell, hopefully, otherwise the eevblog
thread.
So my recommendation is, to carefully check the type of your old EPROMs.
I strongly assume that you will be able to safely read their content.
But you should order compatible newer EPROMs, OTPs, or FLASH parts,
which the programmer can handle for sure, i.e. search inside its parts
library, please.

I have found again the original distributor/manufacturer site, where I
bought (via e..y) the TL866II+ with the whole set of adapters:

So the II+ can only handle +18Vpp, and the CS up to +21Vpp, so
programming the old +25Vpp types (2708, 2716 and similar) are not
supported.

Frank, I'm glad you did reply. I checked my spec sheet and the ROMs do
require 25v VPP and the programmer caps at 18v. I've requested to cancel
the shipment but likely to late. I will go back on the hunt for the 25v
VPP.

David, I went to double check if I physically have 2564 or 2764 and I
discovered all the ROMs were in the wrong spots but not backwards like
ram chips earlier. Wow. I corrected my TMS2564JS ROMs according to what
looked like original stickers. I rebooted and had for the first time a
continuous beep. The LEDs all stayed on with a dead screen. I shut it
off. On second boot the beep was gone but the front panel was the same.
Overall no improvement. The physical chip numbers match the schematic's
part number.
I ordered the MiniPro TL866CS USB in the Plus version to burn the ROMs.
will arrive on 4/1. Is it worth it to erase/reprogram the same ROM or
should I just replace/program them.

Depending on exactly which CPU board you have you need either TMS2564
(early
boards) or TMS2764 (late boards) EPROMS

If plugging the memory chips in backwards means their power supply
connections were reversed, those memory chips are likely toast.

ROM images for this meter are readily available on XDevs or in the
archives of the Solartron (group on groups.io), so you can easily
new ROMS as you need.
There are some excellent threads on the 7081 and 7071 on the eevblog
forum which are certainly worth reading.

is mounting the tube
on a rotary platform with a small battery pack over the items to be
treated.
Also this can be combined with direct feedback of UV intensity and
reflection so as not to overdrive
the tube and ensure verification that the items are sterile.

I'm in NW FL.
If you don't have the 'spare' chips, I'll look to see if I have any. I
presume you need the TMS2564JL.
Can you send me a picture of the chips? I'll look in my meters and see if I
have the same revision. If so, and they are in a socket, I can read my
chips and compare to yours. I can also label the chips if you (or I) have
some 'spare' chips.
Regarding the programmers, you might look for BP Microsystems BP-1200 or
later and Advin MVP or U84 or similar. The software will run on WinXP and
is downloadable from their respective sites. The software is relatively
intuitive and user friendly. You can also research which chips are
supported by the programmers. They were the programmers when these EPROM's
were being widely used.
I learned the hard way that it is important that your chip be specifically
supported by your programmer. Some of the TI TMS chips were not widely
supported though I think the TMS2564 was more universally supported.

programmer I ordered will fall short. Even the 6 ROM chips I ordered had
the correct description (TMS2564JL) but the picture (KMS2816AP) was wrong.
I'm waiting on a reply from the seller to confirm if he was selling my
target chip or the KMS #.
I would want to do what you described. Archive the original programming,
erase them, then program in the 6 images. Where are you located?
Does anyone know how to switch volt-nuts from digest version to individual

I hesitated to give an advice for a good programmer for some reasons,
sorry for being late, now.
I also bought the latest TL866II plus, from the original manufacturer,
which I can highly recommend for more recent non volatile components.
There's a long history behind this programmer, as older versions like
the CS had been copied by other Chinese ..uum.. garage companies, I
assume.. therefore the original manufacturer XGECU terminated all these
older versions some time ago, so I hope your CS version is?
'compatible', or 'old stock', or you should make sure it is anything of
both, before attempting to make a firmware update.. as far as I
remember.. there's been a long discussion on eevblog about this
programmer, and stuck FW updates, especially on clones. Best is to avoid
these updates, anyhow.
The 2nd problem with the recent version which I have is, that it is not
able to program very old EPROMs which require high programming voltages
like 25V or even 21V, (I didn't test that yet on my old stock), so your
EPROMs might fall into this category.. and if the CS version (either
compatible or original) is still able to program one of these, I don't
know. The operating software will tell, hopefully, otherwise the eevblog
thread.
So my recommendation is, to carefully check the type of your old EPROMs.
I strongly assume that you will be able to safely read their content.
But you should order compatible newer EPROMs, OTPs, or FLASH parts,
which the programmer can handle for sure, i.e. search inside its parts
library, please.

I have found again the original distributor/manufacturer site, where I
bought (via e..y) the TL866II+ with the whole set of adapters:

So the II+ can only handle +18Vpp, and the CS up to +21Vpp, so
programming the old +25Vpp types (2708, 2716 and similar) are not
supported.

David, I went to double check if I physically have 2564 or 2764 and I
discovered all the ROMs were in the wrong spots but not backwards like
ram chips earlier. Wow. I corrected my TMS2564JS ROMs according to
looked like original stickers. I rebooted and had for the first time a
continuous beep. The LEDs all stayed on with a dead screen. I shut it
off. On second boot the beep was gone but the front panel was the same.
Overall no improvement. The physical chip numbers match the schematic's
part number.
I ordered the MiniPro TL866CS USB in the Plus version to burn the ROMs.
will arrive on 4/1. Is it worth it to erase/reprogram the same ROM or
should I just replace/program them.

I have a couple 7081's and the ability to read, archive, and program
any EPROM you need, assuming I have the EPROM.
From your email, I think you need the TMS2564. It's been a few years

If plugging the memory chips in backwards means their power supply
connections were reversed, those memory chips are likely toast.

on a rotary platform with a small battery pack over the items to be
treated.
Also this can be combined with direct feedback of UV intensity and
reflection so as not to overdrive
the tube and ensure verification that the items are sterile.

I'm in NW FL.
If you don't have the 'spare' chips, I'll look to see if I have any. I
presume you need the TMS2564JL.
Can you send me a picture of the chips? I'll look in my meters and see if I
have the same revision. If so, and they are in a socket, I can read my
chips and compare to yours. I can also label the chips if you (or I) have
some 'spare' chips.
Regarding the programmers, you might look for BP Microsystems BP-1200 or
later and Advin MVP or U84 or similar. The software will run on WinXP and
is downloadable from their respective sites. The software is relatively
intuitive and user friendly. You can also research which chips are
supported by the programmers. They were the programmers when these EPROM's
were being widely used.
I learned the hard way that it is important that your chip be specifically
supported by your programmer. Some of the TI TMS chips were not widely
supported though I think the TMS2564 was more universally supported.

programmer I ordered will fall short. Even the 6 ROM chips I ordered had
the correct description (TMS2564JL) but the picture (KMS2816AP) was wrong.
I'm waiting on a reply from the seller to confirm if he was selling my
target chip or the KMS #.
I would want to do what you described. Archive the original programming,
erase them, then program in the 6 images. Where are you located?
Does anyone know how to switch volt-nuts from digest version to individual
emailed version?
