FYI,
Ramtron was acquired by Cypress Semiconductor. I've had trouble finding
some FRAM parts, but that may be changing as Cypress scales up production.
Also, watch out for fraudulent parts on ebay. I've ended up buying a
couple things that were bad, although not ramtron parts.
Anyway, Keep us posted on the FRAM upgrade. I'm curious how it works out.
Dan
I'm looking at the A5 board in my 3458A.
The DS1220Y and the two DS1230Y NVRAMs have 1997 dates, so should likely be
replaced. I think the Ramtron FM1608-120-P is a direct "drop-in"
replacement in this application for the DS1230Y. Is that right? If so I'll
get some in from eBay.
Is there an FRAM direct replacement for the DS1220Y-150? Or should I use a
FM16W08 on a 28 way SOIC to DIP adapter as per
https://xdevs.com/fix/hp3458a_u4/#fram
Thanks
Dave
I purchased an FM16W08 (for the CAL RAM) and a pair of FM18W08 for the user data RAMs. I'll use 28 way SIOC to DIP adapter PCBs and will wire up the FM16W08 so it looks like a DS1220Y.

Looks like 100% success - I followed the instructions at https://xdevs.com/fix/hp3458a_u4/#fram, and all was well.
The only problem I encountered was that my "goto" ROM burner (Galep-4) had a problem reading the first byte of the FM18W08, always reading it as X'66' :(. I've emailed Conitec about this issue.
Luckily my Dataman 48XP handled the FM18W08 fine even though it hadn't heard of the FM16W08 :( ... Luckily the Galep-4 worked ok for that IC!

Hi, I documented a similar bug on fake or counterfeit USB-serial chips (namely *T232BM) that caused program bits not to work properly on some PICs.
Took me ages to figure out why code I had written on the setup wouldn't work when my ICSP finally showed up.
(irony. also counterfeit but a rebadged older model not actually fake)
